Obsession-My Opinion

Page history last edited by PBworks 15 years, 6 months ago

I missed class the day everyone watched the video. So, I asked my mom to see if she got the dvd, and watched it. Now, I understand there is a fear among Americans about suicide bombers and terrorism. However, I feel like this video only shows one side of the Islamic community. Focusing on Radical Islam is not going to do anything but instill fear among Americans, as well as other nations in the world. I admit that I am fearful as well, but that doesn't mean I'm going to assume that's how people who believe in Allah behave. I also found it interesting how there's a 2 second part of the dvd where they say something about how not all people who are Islamic are terrorists. I mean, I understand that this movie is meant to focus solely on Radical Islam and their dedications to Allah through war, but if you're going to mention something like that, at least dedicate part of the video to followers of Islam who are peaceful and kind-hearted so those who do watch the dvd don't feel like every Islamic individual is going to kill them (I know, the statement is a bit extreme but after watching that DVD, I think this is rather calm). I understand that some leaders in the Islamic community do instill and teach children and adults to hate America, Europe, and other countries. I also understand that Radical Islam is not the only group of Islamic people in this world. I think that's what pisses me off the most. This movie sends a generalized message that every person whose Islamic is Radical. It's another assumption, another stereotype. Something else that makes me more sensitive to this topic is that I feel that there is still an underlying racist view towards Muslims. I understand how they feel, considering to this day, I'm still followed around in a store because they assume I'm going to steal, meanwhile someone else who is not ethnic is walking away with over $200 of merchandise. The topic of Jihad stuck out to me. Apparently "Jihad" means "personal struggle". I understand that Radical Islam uses the media to influence their followers to view Americans as Satanic and evil, and commend those who kill us. I love America, and I will support my troops especially considering i have family in the military. Oh, and I read someone's blog mentioning that if people don't like Americans, get out of the country. I feel that's a very extreme way to put things. Is it not similar to how the KKK and people who are racists against African Americans tell us to go back to Africa? ( By the way, for those who like to make racists jokes about any ethnic culture, I say to you, look up how many inventions that you use today are made by people of other ethnicities. If you don't like us, stop using our products and see how successful you are in your quest to live on your own. Thanks!). But back to the video, I truly feel that this is yet another attempt for people to try to instill enough fear in people to say "Let's get those terrorists! Come on Bush, we believe in you!" Please, somebody hand me a wastebasket, because it makes me physically sick that people think if we kill them then we win. And how doesn't war bring about peace? Isn't that a contradictory statement? Ok so we have to kill not only Muslim people, but our own American people, just to have peace?

You say if we don't like American then get out.

If you don't like other ethnicities and cultures, then don't use the products that come from there, use things that are made in America, from American ingredients, by American people, made in American buildings that are made from products produced in America.

See the world revolves around resources from other cultures.

People didn't like African American people, should they have left America, even though we didn't even ask to come to America?

Like I said, if you feel strongly about those who don't like America, get yourself some All American made 100 percent no influence from other culture items and live your life.
