October 19th, A Sunday....but not just any Sunday, but game 7 of the ALCS between Tampa and Boston. This one of the biggest games in Rays history win here meet the Phillies in the World Series, loose blow an amazing series lead over the Red Sox and try again next year. I was sitting in Fergs Sports bar right across 1st ave south from the action, if you had not been following the series it was one of the most amazing. Boston took the first game, but the second game went to extra innings as Joe Maddon threw in 3 different pitchers to close it and it came down to a sac fly and a fast ass mother fucker my the name of Perez to bring it home for the Rays. The series was 1-1 and they were heading to Boston, two days later the Rays were ready for the vetren ballpark of Fenway, the smell of hotdogs and stale beer filled the air, along with drunk obnoctious Red Sox nations. The Rays pounded the Red Sox in game 3 and 4, with all hope turning in the Rays directions they came into game 5 with one thing on their mind World Series. But Boston had been there before, in 2004 they were down 3 games against the Yankees and came back off the bat of the fat ass David Ortiz, also in the 2007 ALCS they were down again 3 games to 1 against Cleveland and came back to win. The Rays broke off to a great early lead 7-0 and with our ace Scott Kazmir on the mound looking unbeatable that miracle of worst to first was looking great. But in the 7th inning after 103 pitches Joe Maddon took out Kaz and placed in Dan Wheeler. Wheeler was shelled and gave up 6 runs, in the 9th Boston tied it up and with a 2 run RBI Boston took the game and brought the series to 3-2. In the 6th game Boston pitching dominated and took the game to tie the series up 3-3. It was begining to look like last year and 3 years before....the only thing I could think of was how could this happen. Matt Garza took the mound in game 7 the batter of the game Dustin Pedrioa cranked one deep left field it wasnt looking good for Tampa. After that hit Fergs sat silent as John Lester retired 3 innings till Even Longoria hit a double to drive in Carlos Pena. In the 5th Rocco Baldelli drove in Willy Aybar to take the lead, and in the 7th Willy Aybar hit a 1 run home run to put the Rays up 3-1. In the 8th inning Joe Maddon took Matt Garza out who pitch one of the best games ever....the only bad thing was that he put in Dan Wheeler, the man who gave up 6 in game 5. Fergs and the trop went silent, it was one of the scariest moments I had ever had if we could just bring in these three runs and take the 8th and take another 3 in the 9th we would be going to the World Series. Dan Wheeler walked one and was taken out, after that Jp Howell was put in and he retired one, after that Joe put in the future phenom David Price. He struck out 2 and we went to the 9th, in the 9th David Price struck out 2 and we were going nuts the ground ball to Aki to end the game was insane and I couldnt hear anything, all of downtown St.pete was one fire people everywhere. The Tampa Bay Rays went from worst to first and are going to the world series.
