Ethnography

When I first picked up this assingment I got the idea from my old high school history teacher that it is a type of writing that describes human society and actions with an outsiders view. So I decided that I wanted to do it on a stripe club.....that fell threw when I found out that a stripe club is not an non-profit business, and I got a speeding ticket so I was out 200 dollars. So I went with the next best thing...The Nelson Poynter Memorial Library.

The Nelson Poynter Memorial Library offers an unbelievable amount of resources to the students and staff at USF St. Petersburg. It offers a spot for research, from books to computers. It is open more then any other building on campus, mostly because it is open on weekends. My interview was held with the information head, Jerry Nataro.

1. What type of things does the library offer to help the students with work, other then just books?

- Jerry's reply was "Just books?" I was afraid that I offended the book worm. After a breif moment of silence he started in with the list, the Library offers research assistance. The research assistance ranged from books, dvds, cds, audio tapes, and computer usage. As I went deeper in with computer usage he told me that they offer everything from Word to photoshop. The Nelson Poynter Memorial Library offers help for students who are struggling with BlackBoard. It also is the  home for the ID card centers, they also offer Interlibrary Loans (I will go into this later on)

2. How many books can a student check out at once?

- Jerry went into great detail about the amout of books a student and STAFF could check out at once, even though the question only stated students. He said that undergraduates are given a max of 20, Graduates can get 50, and teachers and staff can get a max of 100. Jerry then went on to state the reason why, he said that they wanted to make it fair for student to get information on their class or subject. They do not want one person to come in and check out all the books on anciety history and leave everyone else in the dust.

3. What are the jobs a student can get with work study?

- Some of the jobs are putting away media, helping out with A/V, making ID's, and help checking books out.

4. What is Interlibrary Loans?

- The Interlibrary Loans are an access to anywhere over the world that has a book or document that a student needs, they request it and then they have access to it over the internet.

So In the end I would like to say that the Nelson Paynter Memorial Library was a good choice I really would of liked to do mine on the Stripe club and get a really good one on one with a dancer....but I got stuck with Jerry.

McCloud Chapter 1

When I first bought this book I was pretty much laughing my ass off I couldnt belive that a college course was using a comic book to teach me something. Its not till I opened it and started to read it that I notice that its pretty serious. I really like how it breaks down the process of what a group of different photos will make and what the meaning is and how it is different from just the single photo. I also like how he goes into talk about the history of the comic and how over a thousand of years it has changed.
